The Big Food-off: tensions boil over at dealchecker
There’s been trouble brewing at dealchecker and it boiled over last week. As you may have guessed the one thing we love almost as much as travelling is food (preferably combined). Siobhan and George, two of our fantastic sales peops, have been arguing for weeks over who creates the best lunches and it finally came down to this – an office lunch-off.
I offered to judge the contest, but regretted it when it became apparent that the loser would never speak to me again – this was serious stuff. At the stroke of 12 they raced out to the market for fresh ingredients and then competed for space in the well-equipped dealchecker kitchen (read: microwave and toaster).
The lunches Siobhan’s Shepherd‘s Pie with sweet potato topping and side salad lost points on presentation but was super tasty and the beans and sweet potato added an interesting twist. While George wowed with a tower of mozzarella, tomato and prawns with a side of rocket and bread.
The winner In the end substance won out over style and Siobhan scraped in with a win. Reliving the moment for us today she described it as a ‘relief, George’s presentation was very good but I suppose class and taste was what really mattered’. While George felt ‘devastated‘ although half an hour after the lunch he did admit he was still hungry.
How have their lives changed? A week later and the fame has faded for Siobhan who was last seen heating canned soup. George has gone back to the basics and is trying master the art of brewing tea.

I must say my canned soup was very delicious, however I am willing to participate in a second lunch-off so that I can show that it was not a one off! Good review Pip!
that shepherds pie looks to die for!!! give me a huge plate full
I’d definitely take those prawns over that shepards pie, look how big and juicy they are *yum* :)
