It’s Party Time!
Today is a very exciting day in the dealchecker office – This afternoon we have the dealchecker Christmas party! Anticipation is mounting as to what is in store as our notoriously fun directors have planned an afternoon of surprises. Last year saw us take on an ‘Apprentice’-style treasure hunt in teams across London that culminated in karaoke in Farringdon. Oh yeah! Rumours are circulating as to whether this year can top it…
All we know so far is that there is a competition for the dealchecker wearing the most wacky/crazy Christmas jumper. The team are keeping their cards close to their chests as to what each of us will be donning for the big day. The desirable prize – a meal for two at Moro in Exmouth Market – has meant that the competition is being taken very seriously! We have also been told that we can expect lunch and need to wear suitable footwear and clothing. Could the recent weather front mean we can expect a snow based afternoon of sledging? (I’m secretly hoping so!)
Christmas parties are renowned for being THE occasion where everyone has the chance to unwind with colleagues, celebrate the success of the past year and relax and enjoy yourselves. However, know your boundaries! You don’t want to end up being ‘that’ person (the one who is sick/falls over/snogs the inappropriate colleague/makes a total fool of themself) who cant face coming to work the next day.
Here are my tips for Christmas party etiquette. Tune in tomorrow to see if I manage to stick to any of them myself!
Try not to drink too much. Clearly this is the main challenge at an event which is often defined by copious amounts of alcohol. Pacing yourself is key. By drinking too much you are likely to say something you regret or worse still initiate an argument with someone who has been driving you mad at work for the past year. By drinking too much you may decide it’s the best time to spill your heart out to a colleague or start a conversation about the directors.
For every alcoholic drink try and have a soft drink and don’t forget to eat! It will help in the long term to remain hydrated and eat well to avoid getting too drunk!
Dance with decorum! Certainly enjoy yourself but maybe leave your new Rihanna inspired booty shaking moves at home.
It’s an occasion to enjoy yourself with your work colleagues for sure – not the time to end up in an employment tribunal or drowning in regret the next morning.
Watch this space to hear about what us dealcheckers get up to at our Christmas do and feel free to share your tales with us!
