In Search of the Bikini Body
Ah summer, the long warm sunny days that we wish for all winter. But when they finally arrive they bring nothing but panic as we realise we let our diet slip somewhat over winter when stews and comforting puds were the order of the day. If the summer holiday’s booked, the festival tickets have arrived or you just want to be able to wear those short shorts in the park, well never fear we’re here to help with a few handy hints.

Chances are you’ve not exactly piled on the pounds over winter, it just feels that way when you put your bikini on for the first time, so take a deep breath and really evaluate the bits you need to work on most. Now, we’re not miracle workers here so we need to focus, be strict and disciplined with ourselves and keep remembering the goals. If it helps, put a picture of your holiday spot as your phone background, or put your tickets on the fridge to remind you in moments of weakness.

We’ll start with the most obvious and the most hated way to get into shape….exercise! It’s not realistic to overhaul your whole life to fit in an exercise class or gym trip every day, so exercise smarter. A combination of cardio and toning exercises will get you in beach shape in no time so try to do one or the other for at least 15 mins a day. A skipping rope is easily thrown in your bag and can be done anywhere, and look up toning tips for your problem areas to blast them away. There are loads of free and cheap phone apps that offer programs so you can look these up if you’re on the go.

Cut down the caffeine drinks like tea, coffee and cola and swap them for peppermint and chamomile teas plus plenty of water. This will flush out all your toxins, making you less likely to retain water, which means you’ll be instantly slimmer! Plus, all that water is great for your skin. Try to get into the habit of keeping a 1litre water bottle by your desk and making sure you empty it by lunch and then again before you go home.

The hot weather always makes me want to eat more fruits and salads, so jump on the bandwagon with the seasonal produce and fill up on the greens. For lunch, add protein like a hard boiled egg or grilled chicken to a huge pile of salad complete with cucumber and tomatoes and spritz some balsamic vinegar over the top. Add a couple of sliced boiled new potatoes and you’ve got a filling dinner. You can even get fancy and sprinkle some seeds on the top.

It seems that snacks are the downfall of many a healthy eating regime as it’s easy to just grab chocolate or cakes when you feel the snacking urge. You need to plan ahead for this with a couple of pieces of fruit in your bag. If you need something more substantial, plain yoghurt with summer berries is a great snack. And if you feel the ice cream monster waiting to strike save it til you’re on holiday and enjoy an ice pop instead.

If all else fails buy yourself a new bikini that makes you look fabulous, slap on a bit of fake tan and get some high heeled flip flops. Wear with confidence and enjoy your holiday with pride. So good luck with getting that bikini body and I’ll leave you with a tale of how seriously we at dealchecker take our summer figures. We’ve started doing a tummy toning class at dealchecker HQ in our lunch break, despite having an open plan office! So get your workmates and friends involved and take your workout with you wherever you go!
