The World’s Largest Ice-Skating Rink

You can’t go to the world’s largest ice-skating rink just any time you like – in the summer months you’ll find canal boats in your way and the surface, well it’ll be more than a bit watery. So now is the time of year to start looking for cheap flights to Ottawa to check this attraction out!

The oldest canal in continuous use in North America, The Rideau Canal attracts plenty of visitors in the warmer months as it’s a beautiful way to travel between Ottawa and Kingston and a great way to see more of the area. But it’s in the winter it really comes alive. Local residents have long been strapping on skates and heading out on to the ice when winter comes, but in recent years it’s really taken off as an attraction.

A specially cleared section is kept in tip-top skating condition, running through Ottawa centre. You can find snacks and attractions aplenty cropping up along this icy stretch, which is as large as ninety hockey rinks (although much narrower!). In fact, there’s even talk of the National Hockey League playing a regular annual match on the ice. And if you can’t wait for that to come about, why not visit for Winterlude, a festival of all things icy that takes place every year in February.
