Olympic Watch
There’s only 115 days to go – we’re already in April and Olympic Fever is continuing to take hold of us here at dealchecker! What are we talking about this week?
Olympic Kit
The Olympic kit was launched recently with much hype. It was designed by Stella McCartney and has all the latest technological features to help our athletes get the best out of themselves. I quite like the sleek new designs, and particularly like how all the different sports will have their own versions of the same kits, so that whenever you see a British athlete you can be sure they are sporting the same look. Steve Cram on the other hand things it’s all modern nonsense and would rather see us in a simple red and blue stripe!
Sunday Shopping Hours
To help all the foreign visitors get the most out of their time in the Capital, shops that are normally forced to close on Sundays after six hours trading will be hearing their tills ring from early til late. That’s right! Even you non-Olympic fans can rejoice at this news as the laws are being relaxed for the whole country! What started as panic at the three huge souvenir shops at the Olympic site when they thought that they would be forced to have shortened hours on Sundays is now a cause for joy at the ability to shop!
Officials Only Lanes
The bureaucracy seems to have gone mad with this one though, with the announcement that many of London’s bus lanes around Olympic venues will be re-purposed as Officials-Only lanes with buses, bikes, taxis and everyone else forced to share the other lanes. If you’re lucky enough to have tickets, I definitely advise a good pair of walking shoes and a A-Z (or app!) as it’s much easier to walk around London than most visitors think!
Eddie The Eagle
The torchbearers have been named and there have been eyebrows raised as Eddie the Eagle – famous as Team GB’s only Olympic ski jumper and hero of the Calgary 1988 Games – hasn’t been asked to bear one of the torches. What makes this all the more odd is that he was asked to carry the torch in Vancouver! Maybe he can only come out in wintry climates?
Olympic Mascot Dance
Schools around the country are learning the Olympic Mascot Dance from online teaching aids and you needn’t wait until your kids teach you to get involved! Check out the dance on youtube and get boogying for the Olympics!
