Foodspotting is the internet version of that super-knowledgeable foodie friend – you know the type – who can always be relied upon to suggest the best place in town to get *insert foodstuff here*. It allows users to ‘find and recommend dishes – not just restaurants’ – so rather than being subject to product placement, you’re actually just being shown genuine recommendations from a culinary-appreciative circle of nomadic foodies! Tasty!

It’s pretty simple to use, too. There’s a search bar for the town/city/country, and a search bar for the food you’re looking for. I searched for ‘bagel in New York’ and ‘Pizza in Naples’ and was instantly rewarded with the creme de la creme of both. As it’s user generated, you don’t feel like you’re being persuaded in any particular direction – the top placed establishment is simply the one that the most people have recommended! This makes Foodspotting ideal for genuine foodies who are after a dining experience with integrity that is authentic to the place they’re visiting.

Reviews are simple, concise and get the job done. Those seeking erudite AA Gill style culinary pontifications won’t find them here – but what you will find is a simple assessment of whether the food is good, or whether it isn’t. There are lots of pictures – some more appetising than others, granted – but they are generally an honest representation of what you’ll expect to eat.
